Opioid Addiction Crisis, Dan's Voice Loud and Clear Fundraiser, International Cycling Classic

The opioid addiction crisis, that has impacted communities all over the country, has taken another devastating turn. The rise in opioid related deaths is pushing local morgues to capacity. Heroin and opioid related deaths have nearly doubled in the last two decades. It's a steady increase that has left many local morgues crowded. Thus, refrigerated buildings, newly purchased, are serving as additional storage, capable of housing 55 bodies.

Local musicians will raise their voices Sunday night at a concert at the Ardmore Music Hall. The concert will benefit a fund named for a Horsham man, Dan Rich, whose voice was silenced, and life lost in 2013, to throat cancer. Dan’s Voice Loud and Clear Foundation was established in his memory at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Its current mission is to raise $50,000 to add a video endoscope to Fox Chase’s cancer fighting arsenal. Beru Revue and Ben Arnold will be performing. The show starts at 5 p.m.

The world’s fittest – and fastest – cyclists are rolling into town again this weekend. The Philadelphia International Cycling Classic returns this Sunday. It dates back to 1985 and is considered one of America’s most prestigious international cycling events. The men’s pro race , at nine laps, will cover nearly 111-miles and starts at 8 a.m. Sunday. The women’s race this year, part of the newly formed Women’s World Tour, is six laps, covering about 74-miles, and will start at 12:30 Sunday afternoon.

Weather

Morning rain…scattered afternoon thunderstorms. High 80 in Center City
