There is an update on the condition of the Philadelphia Police officer ambushed and shot in the line of duty. Police Commissioner Richard Ross says Officer Jesse Hartnett continues to recover and explains why it will be a long road, saying "Officer Hartnett's arm was virtually destroyed." Suspect Edward Archer is charged with attempted murder.

In a blog post, David Marcus, the head of Facebook’s chat service Messenger predicts 2016 will mark the end of phone numbers. Just like the flip phone is disappearing, old communication styles could be disappearing too. Now we can do so much more with our phones. We went from just making phone calls and sending basic text-only messages to having computers in our pockets. With 800 million users, Facebook wants its Messenger app to be the go-to chat platform of the future. Users can talk, send text messages, photos, videos, and even money to one another- and they don’t need to know a person’s phone number to do it.

350 fake Fitbits were seized this week from a shipment from Hong Kong. It arrived at the Port of Philadelphia in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Customs and Border Protection officials say they worked with the maker of the actual device to sideline the counterfeit items, which were in retail-ready packaging and in multiple colors — just like the real thing.
If they had been authentic Fitbits, they’d be worth about $3,500.
