Buckman's Ski Sales, NJ Business Outlook Positive, Mummers James May Retiring

Another warm, wet day in the area and local ski shops are wondering what to do with all that cold weather gear. There are deals to be had this winter says Jeff Cassano, marketing manager at Buckman's Ski Shops. Buckman's is only open October through March so there’s not much selling time. Cassano says he can’t remember a recent year that was so wet and mild, preventing local mountains from opening with manmade snow.

The 57th annual Business Outlook Survey by the New Jersey Business and Industry Association included 1,100 entities, from mega companies to mom and pop shops. For the third straight year, things are looking bright, with 25 percent of respondents expecting to bring on more people.
Half of the respondents expect sales to improve, and 42 percent plan to up their investment in the business. Long range concerns center on health care, the cost of doing business and property taxes, in that order.

James May, with a foot on the pedal of a sewing machine since age 9, the iconic costume designer out of Ridley Park took to fashion early on with the encouragement of his mom. For 44 years, James has been the top tailor for the many Mummers who have dazzled us all for decades on New Years Day, producing close to 5,000 costumes a year for all of our favorites.
This year will prove to be one of James’ most memorable because it will be his last.
James May is retiring.
