Facebook Real Name Policy, George Washington High School Changes, Hoverboard Safety

Facebook is not changing its "real name" policy but the social network will allow users to provide more information about their circumstances, such as whether they are victims of abuse, transgender, or Native American. That will flag the profile for Facebook's review teams so they can provide "personalized support." In addition, Facebook users who flag an account will be required to provide additional information, previously they could submit a report without explanation. In a statement, Facebook says the "real name" policy is meant to make people “feel safe and confident they know who they arecommunicating with”– making it more difficult for users to anonymously bully and harass others.

Parents and teachers band together to shake up a Philadelphia high school plagued by fights and unruly students, and the school is receiving a lot of money to fight back against the violence. As a result of the unrest at George Washington High School, the Philadelphia School District removed the principal and says the school will be able to use a $100,000 grant to train staff on how to deal with the violence. Francine Deal, one of the school’s interim co-principals, says they’re implementing restrictions on cell phones and changing admission and dismissal policies.

It’s been a roller coaster of aholiday season for hoverboards. One day, they’re the most sought-after gift ; the next, they’re a dangerous fire hazard. If you’re still planning to put one under the tree? Tony Le of the Glitech board company says your inspection should begin with the battery and to make sure the batteries that you get are branded batteries — Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic. That’s what his company , uses in its boards, which he says include a kind of circuit protector. The safety certification company UL cautions that it hasn’t put its seal of approval on any hoverboard, only on some batteries and chargers.
