Authorities say a man was seriously injured after being shot and then crashing his SUV in North Philadelphia. It happened around 2:45 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Germantown Avenue and Pike Street in the Hunting Park section of the city. Police say a 47-year-old man was shot multiple times near Greene and Manheim Streets, then drove several miles before he crashed his Chevy Blazer into the front of a parked tractor-trailer. The victim was trapped inside the vehicle, but was rescued and taken to Temple Hospital in critical condition. Police say they found multiple bags of crack cocaine inside his vehicle.

A program that provides free Uber rides from Evesham restaurants and bars to the homes of people who live there is expanding to the neighboring community of Voorhees. Voorhees’s program starts this weekend and lasts for 30 days. It works the same way as Evesham’s. Residents download an app for their smart phone, use it if they have to and the ride home is free. In fact, they can party in either town, but they have to go straight home. Both towns are using private donations to pay for the program.

The Philadelphia Housing Authority unveiled the new Queen Lane Apartments yesterday with the ribbon cutting for 55 affordable apartment units, two and three-story flats. PHA president Kelvin Jerimiah says the $22 million development marks the end of four-year rejuvenation of aging housing stock near West Queen Lane and Palaski. Councilwoman Cindy Bass says it’s all about quality of life. Queen Lane will also be home to a marker, which will protect the 18th century potter’s field on the property.
