Millions in Unpaid PA Turnpike Tolls, Juniata Paintball Gun Attack, Blackwood Tool Library

Thousands of drivers are scoffing at the PA turnpike tolls and they're getting away with it, sliding through the EZPass lane with no EZPass showing and the red light still shining. Last year the Pennsylvania Turnpike sent out 886,000 first notices. When the fiscal year ended in May the Turnpike had $33.3 million dollars outstanding in unpaid tolls. The state legislature has repeatedly refused to give the Turnpike Commission the authority it needs to collect. In May the Turnpike gave up on ever collecting $3.7 million dollars, they just wrote it off, and they can’t even report the violators to credit bureaus.

A vicious attack with a paintball gun sends a young child to the hospital, while police are still searching for the culprit. This happened in the Juniata section of Philadelphia near the 7-Eleven at K and Luzerne Streets around 11:30 p.m. Police say a masked man in a car started shooting paintballs at the ten-year-old boy and his father and older brother, who were just leaving the store. The young victim was struck near his eye and rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital where he is in stable condition.

Camden County officially opens a tool library today in Blackwood. You’ve got to live in the county and sign up. Just like a library card, only you take out a tool you might need on one of those home projects. And if you only need it once, why buy it? The library, equipped with donated tools and staffed by volunteers, operates Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Sunday mornings. It’s housed in a formerly closed building in the county’s environmental park on Lakeland Road in Blackwood.
