Droid Turbo 2, Office Of Open Records Director Stays, SEPTA Costs From Pope Visit

The Droid Turbo 2, in stores tomorrow, has a display that's not glass, and guaranteed not to shatter. It has a four-year warranty. It can absorb shock and it can bend rather than break during a drop. Independent tests have seen the Droid Turbo 2 emerge unscathed after plunging 15 feet to a sidewalk. It's out Thursday from Verizon Wireless, which will take your shattered-screen smartphone as a trade for some cash off the $624 starting price.

The state Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the director of the Office of Open Records, who has been fighting Governor Wolf’s efforts to remove him. Long-time Republican Senate staffer Erik Arneson was appointed director of the Office of Open Records by outgoing Republican Governor Tom Corbett. Removing Arneson was one of the first moves made by new Democratic Governor Tom Wolf. Now the state Supreme Court has upheld a lower court decision reinstating Arneson.

The Pope’s visit, last month, cost SEPTA about four million dollars. The transit agency’s figures take into account overtime, equipment costs and lost ridership. Spokesman Andrew Bush says Septa paid 2.3 million dollars in overtime on the pope weekend and another 1.6 million on materials and equipment for planning and crowd control. Bush says even though ridership on many regional rail lines was five times higher on pope weekend than a normal weekend, it was more than offset by a drop on city transit. But he says that in the context of a 1.3 billion dollar budget , it’s a small percent and it comes early enough in the fiscal year to adjust the budget.
