Hunting Park Transgender Murder, PA Tax Proposal Vote, NASA Rocket Launch

Police are investigating the death of a transgender woman in Philadelphia's Hunting Park neighborhood, who they say was assaulted by a group of males and shot. Police are being very careful not to call this a hate crime at this time and are investigating the murder of 22-year-old Kiesha Jenkins. Police received reports of a shooting around 2:30 a.m. When police arrived, they found Jenkins shot twice in the back.

With Pennsylvania in its 99th day without a budget, the state House today is set to vote on the latest tax proposal put forward by Governor Tom Wolf. The tax plan outlined by Governor Wolf Tuesday would increase the state’s personal income tax rate by half a percentage point, from 3.07 to 3.57 percent, and would impose a new tax on natural gas drillers. Republican Dave Reed, the House majority leader, said Tuesday afternoon he did not believe there were 102 votes for the governor’s plan. Reed says at some point, somebody has to be voted off the island, and if there are not enough votes to pass Wolf’s revised proposal in the House, Reed says he hopes the governor will agree that that somebody is broad-based tax increases.

Keep your eyes on the skies Wednesday night.
NASA is set to launch a sounding rocket between 7 and 9 p.m. The space agency says people from Long Island, New York to North Carolina may see a colorful cloud of blue, green and red as the rocket deploys its sub payloads.
