Carrie Underwood surprised her fans and released a brand new single called "Smoke Break" to country radio on Thursday. The song was written with longtime collaborators Hillary Lindsey and Chris DeStefano. She explained that the inspiration for the song came during songwriting sessions after they found themselves stopping and going outside for a break after getting stuck writing. (She doesn't smoke, btw). She calls it she calls "an anthem for every hard-working person." Underwood also announced that the single will appear on a new album called Storyteller due out on October 23rd. It's now available on iTunes.

I’m so excited to finally share this news with you!

Aussie indie darling Courtney Barnett has shared a new video for her song "Nobody Really Cares If You Go to the Party" off her LP Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit. This video was shot in London recently. It features a surprise full band performance of the song on a sidewalk in front of a simple billboard with the song's title. About 100-200 people stop to watch and rock out. The video itself is a compilation of professional and cell phone footage. Watch for yourself:

Patti Smith has written an original elegy titled "Aqua Teen Dream" in honor of the series finale of Aqua Teen Hunger Force this Sunday night on Adult Swim. The cartoon series is completing its 13th and final season with an episode called "The Last One Forever and Ever (For Real This Time) (We... Mean It)" on August 23rd. She sings, "I never dreamed / I’d be an Aqua Teen / Thirteen seasons / What did it mean?" Hear the song below. Smith will continue on though, with a 40th Anniversary Tour of her quintessential album Horses this fall. At the same time she'll be doing a book tour of her new memoirs M Train. Smith will be appearing at the Philadelphia Free Library on November 6th. Click for more information.
