National Night Out, Wawa Beer Sales, Bridge Toll Increases

Philadelphia is one of many cities across America that celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday. Folks across the nation and throughout Philadelphia gathered to celebrate National Night Out, the goal of which is to bring police departments and their local communities together. National Night Out is an annual event that occurs the first Tuesday in August.

Officials in a local township have voted in favor of allowing Wawa to sell beer at one of its locations. The Concord Township Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday night to move ahead with a project that would allow Wawa to sell beer at the Concord Township store on Naamans Creek Road in Delaware County. There are some conditions. The store could only sell six-packs of beer, and the beer area would be a store inside a store. Nothing is finalized at this time. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board will still need to sign off on the deal.

Tolls are likely to be going up next month on two bridges that cross the Delaware River into Pennsylvania from Burlington County. Seventy-seven thousand passenger cars a day use the Tacony-Palmyra and Burlington-Bristol Bridges, both of which were built more than 80 years ago. And they need a lot of work. So the commission will consider the first toll hike in 15 years when it meets on August 12th. The proposal will take cash tolls for passenger vehicles, motorcycles and light trucks from two dollars to four dollars. But for EZPass users, that toll would be three dollars.
