SEPTA Papal Pass Lottery, Papal Choir Practice Begins, Margie Winters Petition

SEPTA's Papal Pass Lottery closed just before midnight and the final tally is in. 38,013 entries are in for SEPTA's lottery to get a chance to buy the regional rail passes for the weekend of the Pope's Visit. What are the odds looking like? Each entry could have requested up to 10 tickets, but not everyone did that. In all, there are 350,000 passes available for September 26th and 27th. On Thursday, emails will go out to the randomly selected winners. They’ll get a link where they can buy the passes, which can be purchased between August 6th and August 9th. Having one of these tickets will be the only way anyone will be able to ride regional rail that last weekend in September. Only 18 of the stations will be open, and each pass is station specific.

In just two months, Pope Francis will visit Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families. The first practice for the Papal choir who will sing for the Pope was held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Philadelphia, on Monday night. When Pope Francis celebrates mass on Sunday, September 27th, he will be serenaded by the 500 voices of the Papal choir. The choir is comprised of the Basilica choir and selected parishioners from across the Delaware Valley.

Supporters of a fired Catholic School teacher filed a petition with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia calling for her to be reinstated, after being fired in June for being in a same sex marriage. Margie Winters, the former director of religious education at Waldron Mercy Academy, came to the Archdiocese offices with 23,000 signatures, asking Archbishop Chaput to sit down and talk. The Archdiocese says Waldron Mercy Academy doesn’t fall under their purview, but that Archbishop Chaput has said in the past he agrees with the school’s decision.

Weather

Scattered thunderstorms this morning. High 93 in Center City.
