A young mother was shot in the head and killed with her 2 year old child still in the house. Police say this happened around 11:00 p.m. Thursday night on the 3000 Block of Aramingo Avenue in Port Richmond. Authorities say the mother was shot in an upstairs bedroom. Her daughter was not harmed and is now safe with friends in the neighborhood. Police do not have the shooter in police custody. It was reported a black male wearing a grey hoodie fled south on Aramingo Avenue from the house.

Pope Francis has popped up in Narberth. And he’s hot. Debby Fireman, of the agency, Fireworks, discovered a company in Vermont that manufacturers novelty toasters, with metal inserts that allow images to burn into the toasted bread. Her idea, Toast the Pope was born. Francis’ face with an added plate that reads, Spread the Love is now online for purchase at www.toastthepope.com.

The Dominican Republic is deporting many of its residents of Haitian descent. A new immigration law is causing a large amount of Haitians in the Dominican Republic to return to Haiti. Marc Antoine, a community leader with the Haitian Diaspora in Philadelphia says they are asking elected officials throughout the region to stand up and speak out against the mass deportation that’s taking place. As part of the efforts to bring awareness to what’s going on, Antoine and other leaders are holding a rally Saturday at Love Park.
