Poll Shows Wolf Budget Approval, Pope Visit May Close Ben Franklin Bridge, Trails Speed Limit Post

With the deadline now less than two weeks off, a new Franklin and Marshall College Poll shows most Pennsylvanians continue to support Governor Wolf's budget proposals. The Franklin and Marshall College Poll shows 58 percent of registered Pennsylvania voters support Governor Wolf’s budget proposals, and 39 percent believe Wolf is doing an "excellent" or "good" job. Poll director Terry Madonna says those numbers are unchanged since March, but he says they could go down if the Democratic governor ends up in a stalemate with the Republican-controlled legislature.

The Pope's September visit will mean express commuter trains, blocked streets, and maybe — just maybe — closing the Ben Franklin Bridge to auto traffic. No decisions have been made yet, but one of the options authorities are considering is keeping cars and trucks off of the Ben Franklin Bridge for the weekend of the Pope’s visit. Delaware River Port Authority CEO John Hanson says right now, it’s not clear what the final determination will be. He adds the goal is to devise a plan to safely and efficiently move people to and from the Papal events.

Chester County is posting speed limit markers in parks and on trails as a reminder to cyclists to slow it down. All parks in Chester County have a 15-mile per hour speed limit for cars and bikes. But regional parks superintendent Owen Prusack says they decided to post reminders of those speed limits on the Chester Valley Trail and the Struble Trail. The speed limit is posted on the trail rules and etiquette signs, but it will also be painted on the trail.
