An explosion rocked a Northwest Philadelphia apartment building overnight after a gas main ruptured in Chestnut Hil. Authorities say there was a blast on the first floor of the two-story building, blowing out the windows. No one was injured, but ten residents were forced from their homes and into the bitter cold for several hours.

More than a dozen people were forced out into the bitter cold Monday morning after fire ripped through an apartment building in North Philadelphia. The two-alarm fire broke out shortly before 5 a.m. at a building in the 1700 block of West Erie Avenue in the city’s Tioga neighborhood. Firefighters placed the blaze under control about an hour later. There were no injuries reported.

With advance ticket sales through the roof, Fifty Shades of Grey, the erotic drama based on the runaway best-seller, ran away with the box-office crown for Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day weekend, earning an estimated three-day total of $82-million on its debut. In second place was the new spy spoof, Kingsman: The Secret Service, starring Colin Firth. It took in $36-million on its opening weekend. That dropped last weekend’s leader, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, to third with $31-million, and the blockbuster, American Sniper, to fourth with another $16-million, boosting its cumulative total over the $300-million mark.
