Bristol Silo Collapse, Low Gas Prices Drive SUV Sales, Obamacare Tax Prep

Emergency crews are working to free a worker who is trapped after a silo collapsed at an industrial complex in Bucks County Thursday morning. The silo collapse happened at about 3 a.m. at the Riverside Industrial Complex in Bristol. The silo, which was used to store powdered cement, collapsed. Emergency crews are using K9s to aid in the search for the worker.

Buying habits of motorists are changing in part because of falling gasoline prices. Don Franks, President of JL Freed Honda in Montgomery County says SUV sales have been surging since late last summer when gas prices began to tumble. Sagging pump prices come at a time of low interest rates and longer loan terms. The top selling vehicles of 2014 were the Ford F-150, the Silverado Sierra and the Dodge Ram Pickup.

People who bought health insurance through the federal marketplace last year face extra steps on their 2014 tax returns, and maybe extra taxes too. The Affordable Care Act uses tax credits to “make” insurance affordable. The credits are based on income and most people estimated their income when they applied. The time has come to reconcile their estimate with their actual income, and accountant Mark Zinman says if their real income is higher than their estimate, they may be in for a disappointment. This year, Anyone making more than 138 percent of the poverty limit, who isn’t insured, will have to pay a penalty. Also this year, the IRS is sending out a new form –1095A — to help taxpayers figure everything out.
