Jimmy Rollins has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rollins, 36, played 15 straight seasons with the Phillies winning a National League MVP award in 2007 and a World Series Championship in 2008. Rollins, the three-time all-star, is the Phillies' all-time hits leader and second in games played. The Phillies have also traded left-handed pitcher Antonio Bastardo to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for minor league left-hander Joely Rodriguez.

A New Jersey state senator is proposing legislation to retrain thousands of laid-off Atlantic City casino workers for new jobs. Sen. Diane Allen, a Burlington County Republican, said Wednesday she'll introduce a bill creating the Education Initiative for Former Casino Workers. It would dedicate at least $1 million a year from the state Labor Department’s Workforce Development Partnership Fund to provide training and education to workers laid off from Atlantic City casinos within the past two years. It also would apply to Taj Mahal casino workers still on the job but threatened with a Dec. 20 layoff.

Thousands of medical students across the country took part in a national “die-in” to publicly protest recent grand jury decisions in Staten Island, New York and Ferguson, Missouri. Around 100 University of Pennsylvania medical students spread out in the middle of Walnut Street wearing their white coats. Med students at Temple University took part in a protest earlier in the day. Philadelphia Police were at both demonstrations, and they did not make any arrests.
