NJ Sports Betting Measure Passes, New Family Court Building, CHOP Ebola Care Facility

State lawmakers passed legislation Thursday that could allow legal sports betting in New Jersey to move forward. The Assembly passed a measure that was overwhelmingly approved earlier this week in the state Senate. It's aimed at helping the state's foundering casino and racetrack industries, and would partially repeal prohibitions against sports wagering in the state. A spokesman for Gov. Chris Christie declined to take a position on the bill and said the governor will review the measure before acting.

Four years and $200 million later, Philadelphia has a new family court building at 15th and Arch Streets. Supreme Court Justice Ron Castille was among officials cutting the ribbon of the new Family Court of Philadelphia. Administrative Judge of Family Court is the Honorable Kevin Dougherty. Operations at the new facility will commence on Monday, November 17th.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia confirmed Thursday that it has been designated as one of several pediatric hospitals in the United States that may be called upon to provide medical care for any child who contracts Ebola. Officials say the hospital created an “Internal Ebola Task Force” in August that has been planning since then to address all of the processes that are necessary to safely care for a patient while maintaining normal clinical care for other patients. Officials say the Task Force instituted a screening protocol to identify at-risk patients in the Emergency Department and through the Ambulatory Care phone triage system, ensured that proper personal protective equipment is available, and continued to employ ongoing staff training on the proper and reliable use of the equipment.
