NFLPA Appeals Ray Rice Suspension, Cape May County Bomb Found, California Chrome Arrives at Parx

The NFL players' union appealed Ray Rice's indefinite suspension Tuesday night. The NFLPA said that the collective bargaining agreement requires a hearing date be set within 10 days of the appeal notice. It also said the hearing will require a neutral arbitrator to determine what information was available to the NFL and when it was available. The union, added that under governing labor law, an employee can’t be punished twice for the same action when all of the relevant facts were available to the employer at the time of the first punishment.

The bomb squad responded and some buildings and homes were evacuated after a resident turned in military ordnance to the Middle Township Police Department Tuesday. The resident walked into the police lobby and reported the ordnance was found by her son while fishing. Officers immediately removed it from the station and buildings and residential homes along Mechanic Street were evacuated as a precaution. Atlantic City Police Department’s Bomb Squad determined it was a World War II era marking round, declared the round to be inert, and safely removed it.

Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome has arrived at Parx Racing in Bensalem, to get ready for Saturday’s Pennsylvania Derby. Record crowds are expected at Parx Racing Saturday to see California Chrome. He’s the three-year-old colt whose Triple Crown bid fell short at the Belmont. This is his first race since.

Weather, September 17
