Taney Run Ends, Highschoolers' TransPasses Remain, Delaware Taxi Homicide

Chicago ended Taney's Little League World Series run with a 6-5 defeat Thursday night. The final result wasn't a foregone conclusion, despite the fatigued Dragons playing on consecutive days, without their star pitcher, Davis, on the mound against a loaded - and rested - Chicago team. Chicago, or Jackie Robinson West, will advance to the United States Championship game on Saturday against Mountain Ridge of Las Vegas, the team that owns victories over both Taney and Chicago.

A plan to save $3.6 million by cutting TransPasses and tokens to high schoolers who live two miles from school is off the table, says Superintendent William Hite. The transportation cuts were among a series of reductions Hite announced a week ago to help schools open on time. The move would have affected 7,500 students, including up to 1,000 Archdiocese students. Hite says he hopes to announce a resolution as early as next week.

Police in Delaware say they’ve identified the male found dead inside a cab parked on the side of Country Living Road in Millsboro. The victim, 45-year-old William Toomey, of Millsboro, was employed as a cab driver by Delaware Beach Taxi. Police initially called Toomey’s death “suspicious,” but they now say the Division of Forensic Science has determined it was the result of murder.
