7-Eleven Day, Diana Returns To Philadelphia Art Museum, Ridge Ave. Pharmaceutical Robbery

7-Eleven is celebrating its 87th birthday with a full week (actually eight days) of free offers, beginning Friday, or "7-Eleven Day." Probably best known as "Free Slurpee Day," July 11 is the day 7 Eleven gives away millions of Slurpee drinks to toast its birthday. Between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at participating stores, visitors can receive a free small Slurpee drink (while supplies last). This is the 12th year the convenience retailer has offered free Slurpee drinks on its birthday. In addition, participating 7-Eleven stores also are offering ¼-pound Big Bite® hot dogs Friday for $1 as part of the birthday celebration. Each day through Saturday, July 19, a coupon for a different, free item will be featured on 7-Eleven’s smartphone app.

The 700 pound copper statue, Diana, has returned to the Great Staircase of the Philadelphia Art Museum, her home of 80 years. As she was when she was created in 1893, by Augustus Saint Gaudens, as a weather vane for Madison Square Garden, making her the highest point in New York City. The museum received the statue in 1932 after the Garden went bankrupt and New York Life Insurance bought the building. A year-long project has restored her former brilliance. Conservators made another repair, applied two coats of zinc chromate, and attached, by hand, 180 square feet of gold leaf.

Police are on the lookout for two suspects in an attempted robbery of a pharmaceutical deliveryman in North Philadelphia. That deliveryman was shot in the hand but expected to recover. The shooting sent two neighboring daycares on the 2300 block of Ridge Avenue into lockdown as well. Investigators say a deliveryman was attempting to drop off drugs at the Wellness Pharmacy when one suspect pointed a gun at him. Police say there was an altercation and the delivery man was shot in the finger.
