The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that longtime Public Address Announcer Dan Baker will no longer be the team's in-stadium voice come next season. Baker, who has one of the most recognizable voices in all of Philadelphia, has been the Eagles' PA announcer for the past 29 years. Team officials informed Baker of the decision last week.

The Eagles say that their new game experience will no longer be just one voice. They will work with an outside agency to find a new announcer.

“Dan is the ultimate professional and even though he was disappointed with the direction we are heading, he was accepting of our decision to make the change,” team president Don Smolenski said in a release. “We are very appreciative of his dedication and service. He never missed a single game.”

Baker continues to be the PA announce for the Phillies, a job he's held since 1972, making him the longest tenured announcer in MLB. The Eagles will honor Dan Baker at the season home opener on September 7th vs. Jacksonville.

“I want to thank Mr. Lurie, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the fans for the privilege of announcing 29 great years of Eagles football,” Baker said in the release. “It has truly been an honor.”

Philadelphia police have identified the University of Pennsylvania graduate student who died yesterday in a freak accident at Walnut and 30th streets. 27-year-old Zachary Woods of Monroe, New York is a student at Wharton School's Lauder Institute. Woods had just began a two year program with a focus on international studies on Monday. Yesterday, just before 10 am, Woods was walking along Walnut Street when a blue Mercury Montego going south on 30th at a high rate of speed ran the red light at Walnut and was broadsided by a red Toyota Camry. Woods grabbed a traffic light to shelter from the crash but the Mercury jumped the curb, hitting the light sending the pole and Woods over the bridge to the ground below. He suffered broken bones and severe trauma. He died late night at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Woods had just moved to Philadelphia from New York. He is a graduate of Middlebury College and is also fluent in Chinese.

The Philadelphia Flyers have promoted Paul Holmgren to team President and former Flyers goalie, Ron Hextall, has been promoted to general manager. Holmgren was general manager of the Flyers for seven seasons during which the team had a .598 winning percentage and one Stanley Cup finals appearance in 2010. Hextall spent the majority of his career in the orange and black and was inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame in 2008. Hextall calls this his 'dream job' and is confident he will succeed.
