Fire Service Paramedic Hearing, Seniority Teacher Rules Changing, Feltonville Police Shooting

Philadelphia's Civil Service Commission will hold a hearing Wednesday to consider a new classification of employee - a fire service paramedic. The city will propose a new deployment model for paramedics and emergency medical technicians. It wants to replace one of two paramedics on city ambulances with an EMT. The city’s Director of Public Safety Michael Resnick says the plan would increase the number of staffed ambulances available for dispatch.

If the School District of Philadelphia has its way, seniority won’t play as big a role in filling classrooms next year. The union has long been against changing work rules and plans to fight them in court. Starting next school year, each and every school in the School District of Philadelphia will have what are called site selection committees, and they won’t just be looking at seniority.

Philadelphia Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night in Feltonville.
A 21-year-old suspect and a second male shot a male at the intersection of Mascher and Louden Streets. Then the suspect pointed a handgun and fired several shots at the officers. One of the officers then discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect in the upper torso and grazing his head. The second suspect was apprehended and his semi-auto handgun was also recovered.
