Passengers were evacuated from US Airways flight 1702 to Ft. Lauderdale after the captain aborted takeoff Thursday night at Philadelphia International Airport. The aircraft did get airborne, and the nose gear collapsed when it returned to the ground. Initial reports indicated the flight blew a tire on takeoff. 149 passengers and five crew members were on board. Passengers were evacuated onto the runway for pickup. A ground stop was in effect at PHL for about two and a half hours. Two minor injuries were reported, one person treated for asthma.

With the deadline to sign up for health insurance closing in, insurers and advocates are stepping up enrollment events. Independence Blue Cross held three simultaneous events, Thursday. The hot coffee was a big draw on a frigid day in Love Park, where Blue Cross set up a tent to make it easy for folks to drop in and sign up. Events are scheduled throughout the region up to the deadline, March 31st.

Officials in Radnor Township, Delaware County are cautioning residents of the Main Line community to be on the alert after a raccoon and fox have both tested positive for rabies over the past two weeks. Radnor Health Officer Larry Taltoan warns residents to be alert for nocturnal animals such as raccoons, skunks and foxes that appear during the day and act unusually aggressive or passive. Dr. Len Donato, of the Radnor Veterinary Hospital, says rabies is spread not just through bites, but also saliva. The veterinarian added that it’s important to keep pet vaccinations up to date.
