Superstorm Sandy Recovery Frustration, 400 PennDOT Trucks Ready For Snow Battle

Frustration with the slow pace of recovery from Superstorm Sandy boiled over Tuesday at a public hearing on the rebuilding process. Residents affected by Sandy blasted state officials over what they consider unconscionably long delays, unresponsive bureaucracy and incompetence in approving and distributing storm aid. The hearing in Galloway Township was the first of three scheduled for this week on the state's plans to spend the next $1.4 billion in federal storm recovery aid.

PennDOT crews have their plow blades prepared and are getting ready to load the trucks with road salt to handle the impending storm. PennDOT’s Gene Blaum says more than 400 trucks will hit the highways Wednesday evening and once the storm begins, the first stage of attack will be spreading salt. Blaum says PennDOT already has gone through 120,000 tons of salt this winter, but has plenty on hand and tons in reserve if needed for the rest of the season.
