Germantown Multiple Shooting Victim Dies, PJM Conservation Call, Hospitals Busy From Cold Injuries

Philadelphia Police say a man, shot multiple times in the abdomen, has died. It happened Tuesday night on the 6300 block of Musgrave Street in Germantown. The 25-year-old victim was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in extremely critical condition. Police say he was later pronounced dead. Police are investigating.

The agency PJM that manages the electric power grid across the Delaware Valley has extended their call for conservation of electricity. That means not using major appliances like stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers. Making sure lights you don’t need are off, maybe bringing the thermostat down a little bit, especially from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday. They’re doing this because PJM is reporting a winter record for usage. Even with all that, PECO says their system has held up during the extreme cold.

The bitter cold blast is keeping hospitals busy. This dangerous cold is presenting many health challenges for those spending time outside. The majority of weather-related injuries at Abington Memorial Hospital so far have been patients falling on black ice, but has also increased the number of patients with heart attacks and breathing problems. Abington has extra warming equipment, patients at peak times swelling to over 100 an hour. The next wave is expected to be frostbite from prolonged exposure.

Weather, January 8

Sunny. High 28 in Center City.
