Fifth and sixth graders at the Grover Washington Junior Middle School were treated Monday afternoon to a traveling road show that uses hip hop music, dance, and audience participation to teach the basic laws of physics. It's a collaboration between NASA and the Honeywell Corporation. The program's called FMA Live!, a name that comes from Isaac Newton's Second Law of Motion: Force = Mass xAcceleration.

Inadequate funding for Pennsylvania’s largest school district could damage the futures of its students and the state’s economy, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said Monday after he lobbied Gov. Tom Corbett for more aid. Nutter declined to lay blame for the worst fiscal crisis in memory in Philadelphia’s schools. But he said things have to change. Nutter sought to press Corbett to clarify the conditions under which the administration would release an extra $45 million that the Legislature had approved for the city’s schools.

A woman is dead after an accident Monday night on Roosevelt Boulevard. The accident was reported shortly before 10 p.m. at Adams Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard in Lawncrest. Police say the victim struck a pole and was ejected from the vehicle.
