New Castle BBQ Grill Fire, Rutgers Incoming AD Issues, Kanaan Wins Indy 500

Fire officials say a two-year-old boy was seriously injured in a barbecue grill fire in New Castle, Delaware on Memorial Day on the 200 block of East Hazeldell Avenue in Minquadale. The fire began when a person used gasoline to start a barbeque grill. The gasoline vapors erupted into flames, burning the young boy who was nearby the grill.

Julie Hermann has not considered resigning as Rutgers’ incoming athletic director following reports that 16 years ago she humiliated and emotionally abused players while coaching Tennessee’s women’s volleyball team. Speaking to reporters on a conference call, Hermann denied having knowledge of a letter that the 16 Tennessee players submitted to the school. Rutgers officials, however, have talked to her about it in recent days. The 49-year-old Hermann acknowledged she was an intense coach and may have made a few mistakes handling her team. Hermann says she has matured and believes she is qualified to lead the scandal-marred Rutgers athletic program.

Tony Kanaan has finally won the Indianapolis 500.
Kanaan drove past Ryan Hunter-Reay on a restart Sunday with three laps to go, then coasted across the finish line under yellow when defending race winner Dario Franchitti crashed far back in the field. This 500 smashed the record for most lead changes and most leaders.
