Penn's Annenberg School is hosting an event tonight marking the 50th anniversary of a landmark bit of communication, Martin Luther King Jr's Letter from Birmingham Jail. One of the featured speakers is Delaware County native Jonathan Rieder, Sociology Professor at Barnard College and author of a book on the Letter. He says the Letter makes the case not only for civil rights in the South, but an ongoing battle against injustice anywhere.

In the parking lot of Micro Center in Radnor Township, a husband, wife and their 8-month-old baby boy were forced into their car by an armed man who then drove off with them inside. The suspect drove the family against their will across the street to Radnor Financial Center and pulled into a back parking lot. shortly after 8 p.m. Monday night. The man robbed the individuals of their cell phones, wallet and computer packages, and put the items he stole into a white Toyota Avalon possibly driven by another suspect and drove away. There is also a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects.

A dramatic scene on the Schuylkill River – a car with two people inside plunged into the water and two Good Samaritans dove into action. Michael Moulton and his head coach, are from Penn Charter High School’s Rowing team. Police say they were on the river on their boat when they saw the car sinking, so they dove right in to retrieve the car’s passenger. Divers arrived, pulled the driver of the car out of the water and rushed him to the hospital, where he later died. The car’s driver, leaving the parking lot, mistakenly placed the car in drive when it should have been in reverse. He accelerated, causing the vehicle to enter the water.
