Revel Files for Bankruptcy, Fed Charges for Pilot Impersonator, Powerball Winner Identified

Atlantic City's Revel casino filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Camden yesterday. Revel said it was worth no more than $450 million, and it could take four years to become fully profitable. It plans to continue normal operations, paying employees and vendors, and predicts guests will not notice anything different. The deal will wipe out 82 percent of Revel’s $1.5 billion in debt by converting it into equity for lenders. That will leave the company, Revel AC, with a much more manageable $272 million in debt.

A French man accused of impersonating a pilot after sitting in an airliner cockpit at Philadelphia International Airport now faces federal charges. The U.S. district attorney’s office says 61-year-old Philippe Jeannard, of La Rochelle, was charged Monday with using a fraudulent identity. He already faced state trespass, forgery and false impersonation charges.

The winner of a $338 million Powerball jackpot told several media outlets Monday that his first priority will be helping his family. Pedro Quezada, entered Eagle Liquors store, where the ticket was sold, late Monday afternoon. The Passaic store owner ran Quezada’s ticket through the lottery machine to validate that it was a winner as a newspaper and television outlets recorded the moment. Quezada told reporters in Spanish that he was “very happy” and that he intends to help his family.
