Delco Dog License Inspection, Lautenberg Returns, Menendez Seeks Investigation

State dog wardens are knocking on doors in Delaware County this week to make sure dog licenses are current. Canvassing will take place in Aston Township, Glenolden, Lansdowne, and surrounding communities. Every dog in Pennsylvania three months or older has to be licensed. It doesn’t cost much — $6.45 for dogs who are spayed or neutered, and $8.45 for those who aren’t. It's $2 less for seniors and the disabled. The Pennsylvania Agriculture Department’s press secretary, Samantha Krepps, says it’s a lot cheaper to license and vaccinate your dog compared to the penalty for not doing so. “It’s up to a $300 fine for each violation, and if your dog is not up to date on its rabies shots, that’s other fines that you can incur,” Krepps explains. In Delaware County, licenses may be purchased through County Treasurer John Dowd by calling 610-891-4276, or at the following locations:

Boothwyne -Fuzzy Butts Dog Daycare
Brookhaven – Brookhaven Borough Hall, Seven Seas Aquarium and Pet Supply
Broomall – Community Animal Hospital
Glenolden – Chester Pike Animal Hospital, Glencroft Veterinary Hospital, Glenolden Veterinary Hospital
Holmes – Art’s Animals and Supplies
Lansdowne – Lansdowne Borough
Middletown – Middletown Township
Newtown Square – Family Pet Services
Springfield – Old Marple Veterinary Clinic and Prince’s Pet Goodies
Upland – Upland Borough
Upper Darby – Upper Darby Township Building
Upper Providence – Delaware County SPCA
Wayne – Radnor Veterinary Hospital

Sen. Frank Lautenberg, the nation’s oldest senator at 89, plans to return to the Senate this week after being sidelined with pain and weakness in his legs. Lautenberg spokesman Caley Gray said Monday that the New Jersey Democrat was feeling better and would be back for Senate votes on the budget expected later this week. Lautenberg had missed several votes over the past two weeks after his doctor advised him not to travel. He announced last month he would retire next year and not seek re-election. Lautenberg was sick with the flu in late December and early January and missed several votes. He was diagnosed in February 2010 with B-cell lymphoma of the stomach and underwent chemotherapy treatments until he was declared in June 2010 to be free of cancer.

A spokeswoman for Robert Menendez says the senator hopes U.S. authorities join their Dominican counterparts in investigating the origin of reports he paid women in the Dominican Republic for sex.
Menendez spokeswoman Tricia Enright says Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, has maintained all along such claims are false and part of a smear campaign. Her comments came after a Dominican police spokesman said Monday that three women were paid to falsely claim in videotaped interviews that Menendez paid them money for sex. Enright says it’s a crime to intentionally make false reports to a federal law enforcement agency. The Washington Post has separately reported that Menendez is under a federal grand jury investigation over reports that he traded favors with a prominent campaign donor.
