Nutter's New Budget, Ethisphere Lists Aramark and SCA, Northeast HS Employee Sexual Assault Charged

Mayor Nutter delivers his new budget to City Council tomorrow morning. The city's two non-uniformed unions, District Councils 33 and 47, will be there at the budget speech to voice their displeasure with the long-stalled contract talks. Also turning out will be supporters of a plan for mandatory paid sick leave. Nutter opposes that measure and they’re expected to voice their displeasure as well.

Two Philadelphia-based firms are on this year’s list of the most ethical companies in the world. Aramark, and SCA, are both on the list put out by Ethisphere this year. A record 145 companies are being recognized for going above and beyond legal minimums for their conduct. Other firms on the list include Starbucks, Target and Waste Management.

Philadelphia’s District Attorney’s Office is charging a former high school employee with having sex with a student. 56-year-old Mark Preston Williams turned himself into police Tuesday morning. Authorities say Williams had sex with a 17-year-old student of Northeast High School in Northeast Philadelphia. Williams’ role at the school is unclear. The DA’s office says he was the former Dean of Students at the school, but the school district says he was a staff member in that office and none of the contact happened on school grounds.
