Sally Starr Passes at 90, Drexel Laptop Vending Machine, PA Right To Work State?

Sally Starr passed away Sunday. "Our Gal Sal" started out in country music, but most knew Sally Starr for her daily "Popeye Theatre" which aired for 25 years on Channel 6, ending in 1971, along with her famous close: “I love ya lots. Love, luck and lollipops.” Sally Starr was 90 years old.

Drexel University has become one of the first colleges in the country, and the first in this area, to use a high-tech vending machine to hand out loaner laptops. Offerred are 12, 15-inch Macbooks. The loaner is free for five hours but borrowers need their Dragoncard ID, a password and to okay terms of use. A medical campus iPad kiosk is in the ‘what-if’ phase.

Several conservative lawmakers have introduced a package of bills to outlaw compulsory union membership, but the odds are against Pennsylvania becoming the next right-to-work battleground state. Governor Corbett said he did not see a strong appetite in the legislature for such a fight. Some say top lawmakers and Corbett do not want to add such a divisive issue to an agenda already crowded with controversial items such as liquor sale privatization and pension reform.
