Parents who camped out for coveted spots at Penn Alexander elementary school met with district officials yesterday over the decision to change the first-come-first-served admissions process. Last week the school district changed the rules midstream — saying admissions would be made by a lottery. Parents worry that as the district decides, the application deadlines for charters or parochial schools are passing by.

A fire in North Philadelphia has claimed the life of a 90-year-old paraplegic woman. The blaze broke out shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday at a boarding home along the 1300 block of Roosevelt Boulevard in Hunting Park. Firefighters arrived on scene and discovered the victim’s body on the second floor of the residence.

Police in a Medford Township, New Jersey are warning ATM users about a skimming machine found at a local bank on Stokes Road. The skimming device allows thieves to obtain users ATM card information on the magnetic strip. Victims had up to a $1,000 taken from their accounts and there could be more victims. Police are warning people who use the TD Bank on Stokes Road and other banks in the area to double-check their accounts.
