Philadelphia Code Blue, Chance Harmon Gets 40 Years, Cabela's Boycotts Outdoor Show

The City of Philadelphia has declared a "Code Blue" ahead of what could be the coldest week of the year in the Delaware Valley. Usually a Code Blue is called when some kind of snow or rain is expected to come along with the frigid temperatures, but in a situation like this, where the temperatures are expected to stay below 30-degrees, city officials feel it’s necessary to try to get the homeless off the streets and into a shelter. City officials are encouraging anyone who sees a person living or sleeping on the street during the Code Blue to call 215-232-1984 to have workers come and check on the person.

A Camden resident who fatally shot a romantic rival three years ago when both were high school students has been sentenced to 40 years in prison. Twenty-year-old Chance Harmon must serve about 34 years before he becomes eligible for parole. He was convicted last November of murder and weapons charges stemming from the March 2010 death of 16-year-old Anthony Ross.

Hunting and fishing retailer Cabela’s Inc. will not participate in what has been billed as Pennsylvania’s largest outdoor sports show next month following the decision to ban the display and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. Event organizer Reed Exhibitions imposed the ban at the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show following the deadly Connecticut elementary school shooting that has prompted the ongoing gun control debate in Washington. Several other companies earlier announced their intention to withdraw from the show.
