Obama Gun Violence Plans, Kathleen Kane Sworn In, $50.5 Billion Hurricane Sandy Bill Passed

President Obama is scheduled to announce his proposals for curbing gun violence just before noon today. The package is expected to include legislation and executive action. Congressman Chaka Fattah says legislative proposals will include a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips but he thinks the president won’t wait for congress to act on other issues.

Kathleen Kane has been sworn in as Pennsylvania’s new attorney general during a ceremony in the state capitol rotunda as the first woman and first Democrat elected attorney general in Pennsylvania. After the festivities, Kane said it should only be a matter of days before launching the investigation of how her predecessors, including the current governor, handled the Jerry Sandusky case. Also sworn in Tuesday were a new auditor general, Eugene DePasquale, and Democrat Rob McCord took the oath for a second term as treasurer.

The House of Representatives passed a $50-and-a-half-billion dollar bill for Hurricane Sandy relief Tuesday night. $17 billion slated for immediate recovery from Sandy and $33 billion for long-term recovery andinvestment . This on top of almost 10 billion the House approved earlier this month. Some of the money would go towards FEMA’s disaster relief aid fund. The bill is now awaiting Senate approval.
