Atlantic City Man Dies In Police Shooting, Philadelphia Vigils Held For Newtown, CT

A police involved shooting in Atlantic City left an 18 year old suspect dead Monday afternoon. Police were called out to the Stanley Holmes Village Apartment Complex at about 2 p.m. after receiving reports of two armed black men in the area. One of the men, dropped his weapon. The other man disregarded the officers, fled on foot, was shot, and later died at the hospital.

At Monday night’s vigil outside the Herbert Hoover Elementary School in Langhorne, Bucks County, tears were shed as parents thought of the families of those who were lost in the Newtown, CT shooting. In Radnor Township, a young unidentified woman turned in a .22 caliber handgun, along with bullets saying she owned the gun legally but decided to have it melted down.

US senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) believes there is growing support for reinstating a national ban on assault weapons. Menendez has so far supported 12 failed attempts to make the ban permanent but says the mass murder of children in Connecticut has moved the debate. More than 2,000 guns were used to commit crimes in New Jersey last year, and according to Menendez only about 400 were purchased in New Jersey.
