Earthquake Shakes Clementon NJ, Black Friday Begins, Powerball Lottery Reaching $325 Milllion

Black Friday began a little shaky in New Jersey —a 2.1-magnitude earthquake was measured near Clementon, a little after midnight. It was the second earthquake to hit New Jersey this month. On Nov. 5, a 2.0-magnitude quake struck the Ringwood area in Passaic County.

All across the country, die-hard shoppers have been camping out in order to be first in line for Black Friday. Some say the shopping craze isn’t so much about the money, it’s about the moments. Retailers are projecting an increase in holiday sales this year. Shoppers are convinced the deals are worth the wait and better than years’ past.

First graders at Our Lady Star Of The Sea Catholic School in Atlantic City were learning the story of the good Samaritan this week. They were finally back to class after closing two weeks for Sandy. After Sandy the school cafeteria was underwater. Some of the school families are still underwater financially. Students of Christ The King Regional School in Haddonfield held Hoops for Hope, a basketball drills competition to raise money for the Atlantic City families: Ten dollars to play, five dollars to watch. T-shirts were ten bucks each. Teaching the kids a lesson in giving from children to children.

The Christmas Village in Center City officially opened for business Thanksgiving morning. For the second year, it’s across the street from the usual city hall location in LOVE Park. A giant tree stands at the center of the drained fountain. Coming here is family tradition for people near and far and many seem to agree that LOVE Park is the perfect location for the Christmas Village.

No one won Wednesday night’s Powerball lottery drawing.
That means the jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is at an estimated annuity value of $325 million. Some say sales are slow on a holiday. Ticket sales are expected to pick up Saturday but not by much thanks to the economy and the holidays.

Weather
