CHOP Twins Surgery Successful, NJ Nor'easter Zaps Power, Old City Water Pipe Woes

Surgeons at CHOP successfully completed operations to separate 8-month-old twin girls from New York who were joined at the lower chest and abdomen. Lead surgeon Holly Hedrick said in a statement Wednesday night that the complex surgery "went very well and as expected." Officials said the surgery was the 21st separation of conjoined twins performed at the hospital.

Residents and businesses that had only recently regained electricity after losing it in Superstorm Sandy last week found themselves in the dark once again on Wednesday as a nor’easter smacked the storm-ravaged New Jersey region. High winds, a surging tide and heavy wet snow hit as many coastal and low-lying communities were newly vulnerable to flooding, wind damage and power outages. PSE&G said it was getting reports of new power outages Wednesday that appeared to be due to the new storm, expected to linger into Thursday. Jersey Central Power & Light said it was also getting scattered new reports of outages.

Efforts to repair a busted water pipe on Third Street in Old City have been underway for more than a year. The lengthy repair is negatively affecting local businesses. Business owners on the block say- they’ve tried to be understanding, but they are sick of the view. The water department says the repairs to the pipe were more complicated than originally anticipated. PECO and PGW were brought in and while the project it winding down, it’s unclear exactly when it will be complete.
