54th and Ludlow Double Shooting, PA Liquor Sales Privatization, Sandusky Seeks New Trial

Philadelphia Police are investigating a robbery and double shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition Thursday night. At about 9:15 p.m. near 54th and Ludlow streets. a 23 year old man was shot multiple times and taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he is listed in critical condition. The second male, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pennsylvania lawmakers have wrapped up another two-year session without action on privatizing liquor sales. Allegheny County Republican Mike Turzai, the state House majority leader, brushes off the idea that the latest wave of support for the proposal has peaked. Turzai says the governor will have to come forward with his privatization plan if the issue is to get traction in the next session.

Jerry Sandusky has asked a judge in Centre County to overturn his conviction on child sex abuse charges and grant him a new trial. Sandusky’s post-sentence motions filed Thursday do argue that his lawyers were swamped with information that could not be processed in time for the trial. The motions also argue that there was insufficient evidence against Sandusky, that the statute of limitations for some charges had expired, and that his sentence of 30 to 60 years is excessive.
