American Airlines Seat Issues, Nicetown Tioga Shooting, Romney Ryan Shirt Controversy
  by: Rebel - Havertown, PA
started: 10/05/12 9:38 am | updated: 10/05/12 9:38 am
An American Airlines flight from Philadelphia to Miami was delayed almost two hours due to a mechanical issue with the pilot’s seat, airline officials said Thursday. On Thursday, American Airlines cancelled 50 flights scheduled for Thursday and 44 flights scheduled for Friday due to similar issues on Boeing 757s. Airline officials said they pulled 48 planes out of service to make repairs. All the planes should be back in service by Saturday. American originally said the problem was due to a clamp that holds rows of seats to tracks on the aircraft floor. But officials latest explanation is that a combination of wear, poor design and even soda spilled into the tracks caused pins to pop out of the grooves.

A police-involved shooting in the city’s Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood is under investigation. It happened at Germantown Avenue and West Pike Street at about 11 p.m. Investigators say at least one officer shot the suspect who is currently listed in extremely critical condition at Temple University Hospital. The shooting reportedly started as traffic stop.

Samantha Pawlucy wore a Romney-Ryan campaign shirt to class on Friday at Charles Carroll High School. That’s when she said her honors geometry teacher singled her out. She says the teacher called in an assistant who pretended to draw on the shirt with a marker then demanded she take it off, saying this is a Democratic school. The teacher, who is African American, allegedly implied Sam was uninformed, likening it to the KKK. School officials say the teacher has been temporarily reassigned while the school investigates the incident. But Samantha says since this has happened, students have started bullying her over Facebook which has made her nervous about returning to class.
