Essington Avenue Crash Kills Driver, Mural Arts Program Dedicated, Voter ID Update

A man in his 20's is dead after police say he lost control of his vehicle and hit a parked car while driving on Essington Avenue in Philadelphia Sunday morning. Police believe the man was driving at a high speed and say he hit several other vehicles before he crashed. No other cars were said to be involved in the crash.

The latest work of the Mural Arts Program was dedicated Sunday at 7th and Dauphin Streets in North Philadelphia. The mural, which depicts the effects of incarceration on families, prisoners, and the community, now uses technology to keep it current. Mural Arts Program Director Jane Golden says the mural incorporates stories gathered from prisoners, their family members, and the public. The mural can also be seen at the Philadelphia History Museum through December 31st.

The Department of State has made a change to voter ID procedures that will mean one less trip to PennDOT for Pennsylvania-born voters. Up until now, Pennsylvania born voters who did not have a birth certificate had to go to PennDOT, ask to get their birth verified and then go home and wait ten days for a certification letter. Then they had to make a second trip to PennDOT to get an ID. That process is no longer. If you go with your social security card, they are going to certify that you were born in Pennsylvania birth electronically, while you wait at PennDOT. And you’ll be able to walk out with an ID. For more info on how to get a voter ID, go to votespa.com.
