Excessive Heat Watch for the Weekend, Wildfires Raging Out West

Get ready for another heat wave this weekend. An excessive heat watch is in effect from Friday 12pm until Sunday 8pm. Temperatures look to be near 100 degrees on Friday, while cooling off slightly for Saturday and Sunday, which will be closer to the mid-90s. Be sure to look out for signs out of dehydration (thirst, dry mouth, dizziness, and rapid heartbeat) and to drink plenty of water. Urban areas will feel even hotter due to the larger amount of asphalt and concrete that retain heat.

With the heat of summer, come wildfires. Colorado is currently combating 8 separate fires spread throughout the state. The fires have destroyed countless houses and have forced thousands of residents to evacuate. Changing winds have only complicated the problem as planes drop fire retardant in attempt to stop the fires. Firefighters have been on duty around the clock with little rest.
