The Philadelphia International Cycling Championship will go through a few changes this year. The professional race will be shortened to 7 instead of 10 trips around the 14.7 mile circuit. Also, an amateur race will be added that encompasses 3 loops around the circuit and up “The Wall” for a $85 entry fee, if you are brave enough. The pro race is going from 156 miles to 124 miles which race officials say is “more in line with what’s happening in cycling today.”

The American Cancer Society and other groups are renewing their call for New Jersey to ban the use of tanning beds by those under 18 years of age. This comes after staggering new data about the number of cases of melanoma in young people. Over the last 10 years, the rate of melanoma cases has gone up by 43 percent. Those under 40, there is eight times as much melanoma among women, and four times among men.
