A woman is currently in critical condition after she was attacked and set on fire in Kensington last Thursday night, 6/16. It happened around 11:30 p.m. on the 1800 block of East Tioga Street. 36-year-old Alyssa Morales aka Bre is in a medically induced coma in the burn unit at Temple University Hospital. Video surveillance shows a suspect spray her with a liquid and set her on fire. She was found with severe burns to 60% of her body. Morales will have to remain in the hospital for months and will need reconstructive surgery on her face. She is originally from Bucks County, but her family says she has struggles with addiction and was living homeless in Kensington. Morales appeared several times in documentaries by AML Films, which highlights the struggles of those living in that area of Philadelphia.

A teenager was killed and another pedestrian was injured when they were struck by a car driven by an impaired man in West Philadelphia on Wednesday night, 6/22. It happened around 11 p.m. on along North 44th Street. A 27-year-old male was driving south on 44th in a Toyota Highlander SUV when he struck 16-year-old James Saunders of Philadelphia. Police say he was knocked out of his sneakers and dragged 100 feet. A 21-year-old crossing the street was also struck. He suffered a broken ankle. The driver continued on and crashed into three parked cars. When police took the driver out of his vehicle they noticed he was naked from the waist down and smelled of alcohol. The Highlander had been reported stolen from Cheltenham Township earlier that night.

There was a large water main break on Thursday morning, 6/23, in the Norris Park section of North Philadelphia. It happened around 7 a.m. near 4th and Hewson Streets. The break created a river of water flowing down the street and flooding residences. The street was left buckled and a sinkhole formed in the roadway. Officials say that the 20-inch main was made of cast iron and was installed in 1893. No word on how long residents will be without water or how long cleanup will take.
