Philadelphia will find out this afternoon whether or not it will be one a few cities to host matches during the Men's World Cup when the event comes to North America (USA, Canada, Mexico) in 2026. If selected, matches would be held at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia, home to the Philadelphia Eagles. The stadium holds over 69,000 fans and has already had big time soccer events such as the Women's World Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup, and Copa America Centenario. There are 16 US cities left vying for 10 spots. Philadelphia is a world class city and had held massive events in the past few years including the Papal Visit, NFL Draft, Made in America, Super Bowl and World Series parades, and more. 2026 will already be a great year to be in Philly, the birthplace of nation. The 250th anniversary of our country will be celebrated all year and attract every major event, including the major sports all star games. MLS and MLB all star games are already scheduled. The others US cities are: Atlanta, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington DC/Baltimore. The others include: Edmonton, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Monterrey, Toronto, Vancouver. The USA last held the World Cup in 1994.

A second probable case of monkeypox has been identified in Philadelphia according to health officials. "The Philadelphia Department of Public Health was informed yesterday morning of a Philadelphia resident who has tested positive for the orthopoxvirus," a spokesperson wrote Wednesday, 6/15. "Pending CDC confirmation, this is being considered a probable case of monkeypox based on preliminary testing at the Philadelphia Department of Health's Bureau of Laboratories." This case as not yet been conformed. "This individual, although a Philadelphia resident, was seen at a clinic outside the city," the health department spokesperson said Wednesday. "Therefore, its report and testing are being coordinated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. So far, there is no known connection between this case and the earlier known case of monkeypox in Philadelphia. And, to protect the resident's privacy, no information will be given that would aid in their identification." The threat is extremely low.

A DoorDash delivery driver has been arrested and charged after shooting an employee at a Chick-fil-A in Northeast Philadelphia earlier this week. Tyquan Austin is charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, Simple Assault, Reckless Endangerment and other related crimes. It happened just after 8 p.m. on Monday, 6/13, on the 800 block of Adams Ave. near the Roosevelt Blvd in Lawncrest. That restaurant location is only for delivery or online order pickups. Police say that after receiving the order, Austin told the employee that there was a milkshake missing. The employee asked to see the receipt on the bag to confirm the order contents, but Austin refused to show the receipt. The employee noticed that Austin had a gun in his lap and called for supervisors. Austin left, but returned a short time later and opened fire. He hit the 17-year-old team leader in the leg. He was arrested by police after a short chase.

DoorDash issued this response:
"We are horrified and appalled by this brazen act of violence, and have banned the perpetrator from our platform. We are fully supporting law enforcement with their investigation and hope justice is served. We've reached out to the victim to offer our support, and our thoughts are with him and his family as he recovers."
