Philadelphia Police have identified the son of a police officer who was shot and killed in North Philadelphia early Monday morning, 1/24. 23-year-old Hyram Hill had just stepped out of his vehicle when he was shot nine times. It happened around 4:40 a.m. at Broad Street and Allegheny Avenue. Hill had just finished his job working as a bouncer. He had parked his car and was going to a convenience store on the corner when he was shot. There were two shooters. Police initially believed it was a robbery, but they now think he may have been targeted and was followed from the club. Investigators are looking at surveillance video from the area. No arrests have been made. His mother, Edweena Ferguson, is a Philadelphia police officer in the 12th District.

UPDATE: Ferguson spoke publicly on Tuesday. She called on anyone thinking of seeking revenge to stand down. "Let my job do their job. I'm sparing your life. Let them do their job. Everybody stand down please." Ferguson added, "I think so many people out here just want a name for themselves. They do things they don't think about the consequence. They don't think about how many families they hurt."

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney underwent surgery on Tuesday, 1/25, for an irregular heartbeat. Specifically, 63-year-old Kenney had a procedure called "an ablation" to correct atrial fibrillation. According to the mayor's office, the surgery was successful and he is now recovering. He plans to return to the office on Thursday, 1/27.

The Philadelphia Blue Cross Broad Street Run 10-mile race is returning to the spring for 2022. The past two years have seen postponements, cancelations, and virtual runs due to the pandemic. The date has been set for May 1, 2022. Registration will be in February, but a time has not been announced. For more information go to:
