Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw addressed rumors that she is leaving Philadelphia to take the job as New York City Police Commissioner. "It's a rumor that's just out there and it's wild and it's out of control," she said Wednesday, 12/8. "I appreciate the honorable mention, and it's quite flattering quite frankly. But I will tell you, I'm still continuing to focus on my work here, and obviously if I had information to share, I would share it. I'll leave it at that. Their process is their process, and for any additional information I think folks need to reach out to the folks in New York." There has been speculation that Outlaw is on the shortlist of candidates that NY Mayor-elect Eric Adams is considering.

Six people were injured when a SEPTA Trolley struck a CSX freight train in Delaware County on Thursday morning, 12/9. It happened around 8:30 a.m. at 6th and Main Streets in Darby. There were 20 passengers on the trolley. 5 passengers and the operator were taken to local hospitals and treated for non life-threatening injuries. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.

CSX statement:
At approximately 8:27 a.m. ET, a CSX train came into contact with a SEPTA trolley on Main Street in Darby, PA. CSX appreciates the swift response of Delaware County emergency responders who arrived on scene. We extend our thoughts to those involved in this incident and will support law enforcement as they investigate. There were no injuries to the CSX train crew and no leaks or spills were reported.

SEPTA statement:
At approximately 8:30 a.m. today, an eastbound Route 11 SEPTA Trolley with approximately 20 passengers on board collided with a CSX freight train at 6th and Main Streets in Darby.  There are six reported (non-life threatening) injuries including the trolley operator and five passengers. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

The Penn State trustees announced on Thursday, 12/9, that Neeli Bendapudi will become the next school president. She will be the first woman and first person of color to serve as top administrator. 58-year-old Bendapudi is currently the president of University of Louisville. She has been in that role for three years. She is a marketing professor whose research involves consumer behavior. She will be succeeding current president Eric Barron who retires in June 2022. "Being president of this institution is a sacred trust, and it's truly the honor of a lifetime. I am in awe of Penn State's 'we are' spirit and of the transformative power of a Penn State education," she told the board after the vote. "And the Penn State community, which is like no other, anywhere."
