A man has been arrested in connection to the deadly house fire in Buckinham Township, Bucks County, early Sunday morning, 12/5. 61-year-old Christopher Gillies of Dunmore is charged with criminal homicide, attempted homicide, arson, burglary and related charges. It happened around 3:15 a.m. on the 5800 block of Private Drive. 85-year-old Phyllis Drelick was able to escape the blaze, but her husband, 81-year-old Julius Drelick, was trapped upstairs and died. The couple used a chairlift to navigate the stairs. The fire shorted the electricity as Phyllis was halfway down. Police determined that the fire was intentionally set. Phyllis called her daughter, who lives near Scranton, to alert her of the fire. Her daughter noticed that her roommate, Gillies, was not home and had taken her keys and her Buick Encore SUV. Police pulled him over later Sunday morning driving the Encore. He smelled of gasoline and told the officer he was drunk. He had the keys to the home and a lighter on the passenger seat. Gillies also had an old-style rifle on his back seat that the Drelicks displayed above their mantle. He was denied bail.

Philadelphia Commerce Director Michael Rashid resigned over the weekend. He was being accused of making anti-Semitic statements in person and on social media. There were also accusations of bullying that led to a toxic workplace. Some employees quit their positions.

Rashid wrote an op-ed for The Philadelphia Tribune (link below) right before Thanksgiving. The article discussed 'Black wealth.' He highlighted several important aspects of wealth building (education, money management, career, etc). He ended the article enumerating how "the reality is that marriage is a great wealth builder." He concluded saying, "Obviously, there are many paths to wealth building for Black people. Get a good education, avoid the life of crime, eliminate racism, start a business, get a good job, etc. But one path with a very high return on investment, for you AND for your children, is to marry and build a strong family." Kevin Lessard, a spokesperson for the mayor's office said, "the message relayed through the op-ed and its focus on marriage is not an official position and far too narrow a look at the issue."
