Governor Phil Murphy Wins New Jersey; Larry Krasner Wins Philly DA Race; Double Murder in Chester Co

Democratic Governor Phil Murphy has won reelection in New Jersey. The race for governor was too close to call as votes continued to be counted on all day on Wednesday, 11/3. Murphy and challenger Republican Jack Ciattarelli were in a dead heat, separated by less than a percentage point. Many public polls leading up to the race did not expect this to be so close, predicting Murphy to win comfortably. No Democratic governor had won reelection since 1977. New Jersey does not have an automatic recount law. The candidates would have to file suit in State Superior Court in each county they want a recount. Any recount would have to be completed by November 20.

Democrat Larry Krasner defeated Republican challenger Chuck Peruto by more than a 2-1 margin to win a second term as Philadelphia's District Attorney. Krasner, a former defense attorney, has enacted a progressive agenda over the past fours years. He says he will continue to focus on serious crime and criminal justice reform. "First, I would congratulate him because he beat my pants off. It's not even close from what I see so far. The city chose where it wants to go, what it wants to be, what it wants to do. If that's what they want, that's what they want," Peruto said.

Police are investigating a double murder in Chester County. It happened around 1 a.m. on the 300 block of Ashmun Avenue in Lower Oxford Township. The victims include Kimberly Harris and her adult son. Her other son came home and found the two unresponsive. EMS performed CPR, but they were both pronounced dead at the scene. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating along with Kennett Township Police Department, Chester County detectives, and the Chester County District Attorney's Office.
