Arrest in 14yo Killing at NJ Gas Station; Sentence for Shooting of 2yo; Woman Killed Helping Driver

Police have arrested a Bensalem man for the deadly shooting of a teenager at a New Jersey gas station over the weekend. 22-year-old Tamir Phillips is charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the death of 14-year-old Jesse Everett. Phillips' girlfriend, 29-year-old Chelsea Holman, is charged with hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice. It happened around 3 p.m. Saturday, 8/21, at the Phillips 66 gas station on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Willingboro Township, New Jersey. The owner of a 2014 Honda Civic had reported their vehicle stolen on Friday, 8/20. The owner had frequently allowed Phillips to use that car. On Saturday, Phillips was riding around in a car driven by his girlfriend when they saw the stolen vehicle at the gas station. They pulled up behind the vehicle. Phillips got out of the passenger seat, walked up the the driver's side of the stolen Civic, and shot Everett once in the head. The couple then drove away. Phillips remains in jail, Holman was not detained.

A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to up to 110 years in prison for the killing of a 2-year-old girl. Tayvon Thomas pled guilty to the deadly shooting of Nikolette Rivera. In October 2019, Thomas and Freddie Rivera fired shots into the home of Nikolette intending to strike her father over a drug dispute. She was shot while in the arms of her mother. Freddie Rivera is expected to plead guilty and be sentenced next month.

A volunteer firefighter and university security officer was struck and killed on I-95 early Saturday morning , 8/21, while assisting someone on the side of the road. It happened around 4:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Delaware Ave. exit in Wilmington Delaware. 25-year-old Cecilia Escobar-Duplan was on her way home from her shift as a security officer at West Chester University. She saw a Jeep that had crashed into a construction zone. As she was helping the driver of the Jeep, Escobar-Duplan was hit by a passing pickup truck. She was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead. She was also a member of the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Company. She worked as a security officer as West Chester while attending classes to obtain her criminal justice degree. No charges have been filed. Weather played a factor in the accidents.
